SIMUTools 2012 (the 5th International Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques) invites authors to submit original, high-quality papers presenting new research related to simulation tools, methodologies, applications, and practices. While SIMUTools' main focus is on advances in simulation tools, we encourage the submission of papers on all aspects of simulation modeling and analysis, including broader theoretical and practical research contributions. The conference serves as a forum to foster collaborative work by bringing together researchers from academia and industry, and practitioners who develop and who use simulation technologies in a variety of areas.
General areas of interest include:
The conference invites submissions in all application areas. We specifically encourage submissions in interdisciplinary areas. Specific topics include, but are not limited to:
Papers must be written in English and must not exceed 10 pages. Authors should submit papers through EasyChair in PDF format, complying with the ACM conference proceedings format. Submitted papers must not have been submitted for review or published (partially or completely) elsewhere. Every paper will be peer-reviewed by at least three different individuals. In exceptional circumstances, papers may not receive full-length reviews and may receive early rejection notice; if they are deemed out of scope, for instance. Papers will be accepted based on originality, correctness, and quality of writing. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and present the work at the conference. Short papers of 4 to 6 pages, describing work in progress, can also be submitted.
The event is organized by ICST and CreateNet, in technical cooperation (pending approval) with ACM SIGSIM, ACM SIGMETRICS and SCS. The papers that are accepted and presented at the conference will appear in CD proceedings, in the ACM DL (pending approval), and in EU-DL.
One Best Paper and one Best Student Paper will be selected by peer reviews and will be announced during the social event at the conference. Only papers with a student as a first authors are eligible for the Best Student Paper Award.
Authors are also invited to submit proposals for poster presentations. Please submit a two- or three-page extended abstract in PDF format to posters
simutools.org. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Participants in the Poster Session are required to register and present their poster at the conference.
We solicit technical demonstrations showing innovative and original research. The main purpose of the demo session is to provide demonstrations that validate important research issues and/or show innovative prototypes. The scope of the demo session consists of all topics covered by the main conference, as well as all the workshops held in conjunction with SIMUTools 2012. Please consult the demo session chairs if you are uncertain whether your demo falls within the scope of this conference.
In order to propose a technical demonstration, please submit a two- or three-page extended abstract in PDF format to demos
simutools.org. The abstract shall include the basic idea, the scope and significance of the demo. Accepted demo abstracts will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Participants in the demo session are required to register and present their demo at the conference. Please also provide information in the email message with the submission (not in the extended abstract itself) about the equipment to be used for the demonstration and whether you need special arrangements. Be as specific as possible in describing what you will demonstrate. Please include in the email message an estimate of the space and setup time needed for your demo.

SIMUTools 2012 is the Fifth International Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques. The aim of the conference is to bring academic and industry researchers together with practitioners (from both the simulation community and from the numerous simulation user communities). The conference will address current and future trends in simulation techniques, models and practices, and foster interdisciplinary collaborative research in this area. While the main focus of the conference is on simulation tools, the conference also encourages the submission of broader theoretical and practical research contributions.
We invite proposals for one-day workshops that are to be held in conjunction with the main conference and are intended to complement the conference main track. Example topics of interest for prospective workshops may address the use of simulation in a given context (e.g., system production, software engineering, collaborative environments, virtual reality, etc.) or in a given application domain (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, automotive, etc.), as well as specific simulation tools and methodologies (see, e.g., the ongoing workshops on NS3 and Omnet++).
Prospective workshop organizers may combine these and other topics into a coherent theme and set up a workshop proposal that includes the following information:
Workshop proposals (max two pages) should be submitted to workshops
simutools.org by the deadline below.
Prospective workshop organizers may contact the general chairs at the same email address for expression of interests and content appropriateness at any time.
The organizers of accepted workshops will be responsible for:
| Workshop proposal deadline | : September 19, 2011 |
| Workshop paper submission deadline | : to be defined by the workshop organizers |
| Workshop papers camera-ready deadline | : February 19, 2012 |
| Workshop dates in Desenzano | : March 19 or 23, 2012 |
